When I first start partnering with the brand Grinif, i was not very satisfy because of their limited expiration date comparing with many other brands. Shelf time is always a concern for skin care products business just like food selling; I opened a bar & restaurant with partners in the pasted and I learned a lot from the experience on products with expiration concerns.
When I first read information about the “Grinif Organic Natural Ingredient Soap”, i was like NO WAY i am using “organic” soap to wash my face, I learned from the pasted that the PH level of soaps are harmful to the skin. Let me explain a littler about PH in here – let’s get a bit technical. 🙂
The pH (Potential Hydrogen) is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of an aqueous* solution. The pH scale ranges from 0-14. The pH of distilled water is 7, this is neutral. Any solution with a pH below 7 is an acid and any solution with a pH above 7 is an alkali (or base). Your stomach contains hydrochloric acid (HCl) and has a pH of 1-2. The liquids in your small intestine have a pH around 9. Sea water has an average pH of 8 to 8.4.
The pH of healthy skin is between 4.5 and 5.5. Traditional soap is generally at about a 9, which is far too alkaline. Even “pH balanced” soaps, including Dove, are generally at a 7, which is neutral, but still too alkaline to be truly good for skin.
When you use an alkaline product on skin, it changes the pH, damaging the acid mantle that protects the skin from damage. It’s like stripping the paint and primer off of a lamp post and then wondering why it rusts.
After doing some research, I think using this soap as body wash instead of face wash would not hurt much. After I had my decision, I honestly like using this soap instead of the body liquid I used to use for a long time from L’occitane. One of my sisters is a big fan of L’occitane and she introduced me this products: Verbena Shower Gel which i used for a long time as body wash.
I was not too sure all “goodies” information the factory passed to me about the Grinif soap because my decision was firmed by not using soap to wash face but i do enjoy using it as body soap. I had done some research and would like to share with everyone 🙂
- The great shower gel con: It’s expensive, packed full of chemicals, wasteful… and no better than soap
